There are many of us who appreciate Horror Movies most. Biting on the nails, rubbing our hot palms against each other, too scared to give in to the desire to run away and too inquisitive to know what is going to happen next, we continue to stare at the lifeless screen till the movie finally concludes. We watch the entire movie and keep ruminating over the role played by each character. Yet most good Horror Movies are too interesting to be terminated halfway. Exorcist is an American Horror film directed by William Friedkin. The movie was based on the 1971 novel by the same name.
The movie is about the changes in 12 year old Regan, daughter of a famous actress, when she has been possessed by the Devil. Unlike the psychopaths and serial killers, the devil is shown as all powerful and nothing seems to work against him. Regan’s mother, an actress and an atheist later begins to believe in God as she sees the changes in her daughter. The little girl has played the role very naturally. Some of the scenes when regan is under the spell of the devil seem very scary and terrifying. This movie certainly deserves to be in the best horror movies of all time.
Jaws is a 1975 Horror-Thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is based on Peter Benchley’s novel by the same name.
The theme of the movie is a huge white man-eater shark that devours those who come to relax at Amity Island. The monster shark is depicted in a very scary manner. Luck is tested well here.
Friday the 13th (1980)
Friday the 13th was released in 1980 and it was directed by Sean S Cunningham. Later there were many remakes of this movie, but the original still stands out in the minds of the viewers.
The movie is about few youngsters who are being murdered when they attempt to open a long abandoned campsite.
Damien: Omen II (1978)
This was second of the series of Omen movies and was released in 1978. The film was directed by Don Taylor.
Antichrist Damien learns about his destiny from a follower of the Satan. Those who know the child’s true identity are slowly eliminated.

The Shining (1980)
This movie released in 1980 was a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The movie was inspired from the novel by the same title.
The story is about a author Jack Torrence who takes up caretaking of an isolated hotel in off-season so that he could peacefully work on his writing. His son possesses psychic abilities and is able to sense the presence of spirits and ghosts. Gradually Jack is also affected by the supernatural powers and unknowingly attempts to murder his wife and son.
This movie was initially released in 1978 and directed by John Carpenter. There were many sequels made later to the 1978 Halloween but till date this remains the most memorable movie in the Halloween series.

Night of the Living Dead is an American Horror movie released in 1968 and directed by George A Romero. A remake of the same movie by the same name was released in 1990 but still it couldn’t beat this one.
The story revolves around Ben Huss, Barbra and five others being trapped in a village farmhouse that is infested by Zombies and Ghouls.

The Blob is an American Horror Science Fiction Film directed by Irvin Yeaworth and released in 1958.
